Today I got the biggest splinter ever. It was seriously huge. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I'm going to have to use some sort of handcream to start protecting my hands.

My job seems to be equal parts studying and working my fingers to the bone.

Should I have New Year's resolutions? Do people even do those anymore or are they simply the territory of whiny teenagers bent on self-improvement? Or my sister. Apparently she needs to lose weight and 'become more mature'. Personally, I think it might help if she moves out of our parents' house.

I had a nice time on New Year's Eve, even if that mistletoe happened to be everywhere. Cho - it was lovely catching up with you. Hannah - great party, my darling hostess. Job well done. Pity I didn't really get to speak to you.

Now I have a nice new book on Asian wand making that I got for Christmas to read. Good stuff.

It's alright, everyone. I have birthday cake. Christmas is now officially allowed to begin.

I'll admit, I heard my favourite Christmas song on the wireless this morning and it has made me a little more positively inclined towards the festive season.

I still haven't bought any Christmas presents. I may, however, put up a few decorations at home soon.

Nearly my birthday, too. I'm about as in the mood for that as I am for Christmas.

I hate Diagon Alley at this time of year. Far too many crowds for my liking.

People keep asking me if I've done my Christmas shopping, too. I think not. It's only the third!

Apparently my sister and her housemates have already put up their Christmas decorations. I don't understand why people put them up so early. It's not even December yet.

I love Sunday mornings when you have no reason to get out of bed.

I quite like Wednesdays. They don't have that depressing feeling that Mondays have, or the middle-of-the-road quality of Tuesday.

Wednesdays, though, they have a sort of uplifting quality as soon as you hit lunchtime and realise it's all downhill to the weekend.
